12 Days of Fandom Ornaments: #3

My Christmas tree is a mix of ornaments from my childhood and ones from later on in my life. Many of them are related to my favorite fandoms, naturally. I thought I would showcase one every other day in December in a 12 Days of Fandom Ornaments series.

Day 3:

Ornament15

Putting these two ornaments together like this is as close as I come to having something directly related to Highlander: the series on my tree. The Eiffel Tower represents Paris and, of course, the big season 3 finale. And speaking of big, the blue word is a nod to the blue lightning of the quickening. And the word itself is Peace, a nod to Adrian Paul’s charity. So, all put together, this makes me think of my favorite fandom. But I will admit it’s a bit of a stretch.

Day 2: A House Full of Black Santas

Ornament14

I bought this little guy shortly after reading Paper Towns by John Green. I figured that my tree could not possibly be complete without a black Santa. Maybe it’s even similar to one of the 12,000 black Santas mentioned in the book?

Day 1: Erised?

Ornament24-02

This Harry Potter ornament features pre-movie art. Harry seems to be looking into the mirror to see his greatest desire. When you put a light bulb into the ornament, the desire is magically revealed… all the gold in his Gringotts vault. Huh. I’d have guessed James and Lily Potter. But, no, gold. Harry loves gold more, apparently. Strange, but I still love the ornament.

Craft: Star Trek Ornaments

As I seem to be in a Star Trek mood during this part of the month… I might as well take advantage of that with my craft posts (I think I missed the last scheduled one; oops!)

StarTrekOrnaments1

Here are some Star Trek ornaments I made last year for a swap. My partner said she liked The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine the best, so I made ornaments inspired by com communicator badges from both those series.

One is a stuffie, made of felt, the other made of sparkly pipe cleaners.

Day 12: Boldly Go

Ornament12-02

When I saw this Hallmark ornament in 2012, I splurged and bought it for myself. Just like people have a doctor in Doctor Who that is theirs, I have a Star Trek series. I had seen the original series a number of times, but it wasn’t until the Next Generation that I became hooked. I grew up with TNG in my life and it was amazing to see some of the episodes in theaters last year as part of the anniversary and the Blu-Ray release. This ornament with “my enterprise” comes with a sound recording of the opening credits as well, to set the mood.

Day 11: Epic Duels

Ornament11-01

I bought myself this Star Wars ornament years ago. One side features the battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker from the prequels. That’s the side I tend to have facing out, because I have a weakness for Ewan McGregor’s characters. The other side shows the battle between Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi and Darth Vader. I love the symmetry between the two battles. The one in A New Hope makes me a bit sad, though, so it’s just as well that I usually have the other one facing out.

Day 10: Sherlock’s Bored!

Ornament10

In a private swap-bot swap, MeliaMellon made me this awesome ornament based on a moment in BBC Sherlock episode “The Great Game.” This clever ornament never fails to make me smile!

Day 9: Baby Stockings

Ornament09

We ate a lot of Rice Krispies when I was a kid. In 1991, you could mail in proofs of purchase and get this adorable little My Little Pony. So Baby Stockings was, I believe, a Christmas present that year. She acquired a jingle bell around her tail and has hung out on all my Christmas trees since. She’s not an ornament, but she’s a baby pony and the perfect size to perch on a tree branch.

I haven’t seen Friendship is Magic or jumped on the new My Little Pony bandwagon. I’m sure they’re great, but I like the look of the vintage ponies better. Maybe I’m just not used to the new look still? I’m not good with change. LOL

Day 8: Christmas Invasion

Ornament08-02

The Christmas Invasion episode of Doctor Who was my conversion back to Doctor Who. The old episodes scared me so much as a child I just about swore off the series. I’d seen the first two episodes of the reboot and thought they were cheesy. But after I fell in love with Torchwood, I thought I might give Doctor Who another try. I happened upon The Christmas Invasion at just the right moment.

So it was great that stlouisphile created this and several other ornaments for me in a swap-bot swap last year. This is the first year I’ve managed to get them on my tree in time for the holiday. Based off regenerated Ten’s image, created by Springfield Punx, it is great to have a nice, solid doctor and beautifully drawn TARDIS hanging out on my Christmas tree!

Day 7: Hufflepuff Pride

Ornament07

Number seven on here has got to be Harry Potter related! This was made for me as part of a Harry Potter swap last year. It’s great to be able to sport my Harry Potter house colors on my Christmas tree!
