Thing Thursday: 4 Fantasy Movies

FantasyCollectionI spotted this four-pack of fantasy movies at Walmart last week in the $5 bin and couldn’t resist buying it. I’ve never seen Neverwas, but it’s got a great cast (Ian McKellen, William Hurt, Jessiva Lange, Alan Cumming, and more) so I think it’ll be worth a watch some day. And Pinocchio has always kind of creeped me out, but I might give it a try eventually.

I saw A Wrinkle in Time on TV when it first came out. It didn’t measure up to my mental image of the book from my childhood, but it did have Dr. David from Queer as Folk, and that’s good enough for me 🙂

But I really bought this DVD for The Neverending Story III. I have only seen that movie once. And I believe that one time was in German on a VHS copy of something LONG before it was ever released in the US. I know it’s nothing close to as magical as the first movie or even the second. But as I own those on DVD, I definitely jumped at the chance to own the third and final in the trilogy. I look forward to watching it for the first time in English!

Made It Monday: Batman ATC

Just a super simple ATC I made for a Batman swap…

Made It Monday: Wand

Here’s the first wand I’ve ever actually finished. I made it for a Hufflepuff in a Harry Potter care package swap I was in a few months ago. I’m pretty happy with it.

Wildcard Wednesday: Quidditch

On Saturday, I hauled my equipment over to Great Falls, VA, and taught about 20 kids how to play muggle Quidditch. The rules are pretty hard to get across, but (luckily) many were Harry Potter fans. So once they got the hang of it, they had a lot of fun.

I’m available to hire out for parties 😉

12 Days of Fandom Ornaments: #4

My Christmas tree is a mix of ornaments from my childhood and ones from later on in my life. Many of them are related to my favorite fandoms, naturally. I thought I would showcase one every other day in December in a 12 Days of Fandom Ornaments series.

Day 4: Off to See the Wizard

Ornament19

I bought this one at a thrift shop. It’s very heavy, so I have to use branches to prop it up. But I like the look of the wizard here from the Wizard of Oz, especially that his balloon is there and the ribbon on his hat his green.

The End of Another Era

Up and down and up again, we finally have the final title credits song for the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit franchise, sung by none other than Billy Boyd. What a fitting end to a great set of movies.

If you don’t mind being spoiled musically, you can listen to the song right now on Billboard:

This song reduced me to tears the first time I heard it (when it was up briefly a few days ago on YouTube), and it does the same to me each time I re-listen to it. I suspect that I will be a puddle by the end of the final Hobbit film.

The soundtrack is available for preorder online (iTunes, Amazon, etc.) and will be released December 9 (standard) and December 16 (2-CD special edition).

Top Ten: Scary T-Shirts

In honor of the upcoming holiday, here are some of my scariest fandom shirts. And by scary I mean not very scary at all really.

Quiz: Who’s Your Inner Horror Movie Character?

Quiz: Who’s Your Inner Horror Movie Character?

Answer: For 40 % you are: Well, I’m afraid that your personality didn’t match up with any of these horror characters. Which is probably a good thing. Yes, you’re just a normal person…

Thoughts: Well, thank goodness! So many times I don’t see myself in the possible answers, but this time there were loads of choices to choose… but the answer was pretty blah. I guess I’m just not caught out to go on a murderous, revenge-filled rampage. I suspected I was going to get “first person killed” but this is even better. Plus there are hints at there being more there at the end 😉
