Thing Thursday: 4 Fantasy Movies

FantasyCollectionI spotted this four-pack of fantasy movies at Walmart last week in the $5 bin and couldn’t resist buying it. I’ve never seen Neverwas, but it’s got a great cast (Ian McKellen, William Hurt, Jessiva Lange, Alan Cumming, and more) so I think it’ll be worth a watch some day. And Pinocchio has always kind of creeped me out, but I might give it a try eventually.

I saw A Wrinkle in Time on TV when it first came out. It didn’t measure up to my mental image of the book from my childhood, but it did have Dr. David from Queer as Folk, and that’s good enough for me 🙂

But I really bought this DVD for The Neverending Story III. I have only seen that movie once. And I believe that one time was in German on a VHS copy of something LONG before it was ever released in the US. I know it’s nothing close to as magical as the first movie or even the second. But as I own those on DVD, I definitely jumped at the chance to own the third and final in the trilogy. I look forward to watching it for the first time in English!

Made It Monday: Batman ATC

Just a super simple ATC I made for a Batman swap…

Made It Monday: Wand

Here’s the first wand I’ve ever actually finished. I made it for a Hufflepuff in a Harry Potter care package swap I was in a few months ago. I’m pretty happy with it.

12 Days of Fandom Ornaments: #8

My Christmas tree is a mix of ornaments from my childhood and ones from later on in my life. Many of them are related to my favorite fandoms, naturally. I thought I would showcase one every other day in December in a 12 Days of Fandom Ornaments series.

Day 8: Snikt!

Ornament20-01

Made for me for a swap, this features Marvel comics, especially one of my favorite characters: Wolverine. It, also, looks fantastic when backlit. I love that each side is a continuation of the panels, like it’s a complete picture.

The End of Another Era

Up and down and up again, we finally have the final title credits song for the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit franchise, sung by none other than Billy Boyd. What a fitting end to a great set of movies.

If you don’t mind being spoiled musically, you can listen to the song right now on Billboard:

This song reduced me to tears the first time I heard it (when it was up briefly a few days ago on YouTube), and it does the same to me each time I re-listen to it. I suspect that I will be a puddle by the end of the final Hobbit film.

The soundtrack is available for preorder online (iTunes, Amazon, etc.) and will be released December 9 (standard) and December 16 (2-CD special edition).

Quiz: Which Star Wars Character Are You?

Quiz: Which Star Wars Character Are You?

Answer:
HanSolo

Thoughts: Huh. Interesting. Not in a million years would I have ever seen comparisons between Han Solo and me. I think I’m more like pretty much any other character, actually. Okay, yes, I can be sharp, resourceful, and independent at times. I’m good at heart and, okay, I like furry friends. But… I think that’s it. I’d never be a smuggler or shady or even remotely scoundrel-like! What a strange result. I was secretly hoping for R2-D2.

Top Ten: Things That Harry Potter Has Given Me

harry_potter_paperback_setHarry Potter is one of my main fandoms, and its books and movies have given me entertainment, wisdom and concepts worthy of great thought, and all sorts of emotional rewards (not even counting great fanfiction). But there are some other, unexpected things that have come with the stories.

Quiz: Which Harry Potter Guy Should You Date?

Quiz: Which Harry Potter Guy Should You Date?

Answer: Ron Weasley
Your perfect “HP” guy is the cute, loyal, and funny redhead that everyone knows and loves — Ron Weasley! Even if he’s a little messy and gets himself into trouble sometimes, he’s an awesome Quidditch player and an even better friend. You definitely need to learn to deal with his crazy family — let’s be honest, five older brothers and a younger sister can get pretty hectic! On the plus side, you’ll totally feel secure with him — he’s always acting brave to protect the people he loves. Not to mention you can always count on him to make you laugh! But beware, it might take a little time for him to make the first move — after all, he didn’t even ask Hermione to the Yule Ball! To find your real-life Ron, look past the most popular guy in school and check out his loyal best friend! Yeah, that guy who was with the class hottie through thick and thin — and even before he was hot! A guy that loyal will be the perfect match for you!

Thoughts: I am fairly certain I’ve filled this quiz out before, but I can’t remember what I got that time. So… yeah. Ron. Cute and loyal… I could see that. I could handle this. And, hey, who doesn’t want to be a Weasley? 🙂

Top Ten: Things I Liked About the 2nd Hobbit Movie

the-hobbit-desolation-of-smaug-movie-posterI spent last week ranting about what didn’t work for me in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. And while it is still probably my least favorite of all the movies in this current franchise, there was definitely things I loved about it. So to balance out my rantings from last week, here are some of the things I loved.
