Top Ten: Fandom Creations at Brickfair

Okay, once again I fail at a Top Ten list and had to go Top Fifteen. I don’t see anyone complaining. There is so much fannish goodness that comes out of somewhere like a LEGO fan convention and so much creativity. I couldn’t help but admire more than just ten! Despite being numbered, these are really in no particular order. Click on the photos for bigger versions, please! These previews are somewhat blurry and don’t do them justice. Seriously, click on them for a proper look. Trust me. Also, the titles are my own in most but not all cases, because I have to call them something and not all the MOC cards came out in my photos.

Top Ten Fifteen Favorite Fandom Creations at Brickfair

  1. Giant Minions
There were two of these guys. Incredible, huge and heavy builds that actually held up pretty well, considering the thousands of screaming children wanting to touch them during public hours.

  2. Pixar Logo
So clever and simple! I love the little lamp!
    Brickfair04

  3. Gallifrey Stands
A fellow attendee and I count TARDISes every year and this one blew the count out of the water.

  4. Nightmare Before Christmas
Love the Burtonesque curl and Jack looks just amazing!
    Brickfair06

  5. U.S.S. Enterprise
    Well done, classic, and beautiful.

  6. Fly, you fools!
One of my favorite scenes in Fellowship, done big and tall!

  7. Hogwarts
In the middle of a town/train display, there sits Hogwarts and a simply beautiful carriage with Harry and Ginny heading up to it.
    Brickfair13

  8. Tatooine
Gorgeous detail in this iconic vista. Love the Sarlacc! Adore the background!
    Brickfair01

  9. Batcave and More
Everything from the Batcave to the JLA meeting in the attic to a birthday party attended by baddies! I especially liked the variety of Batman costumes on display.

  10. Bender
It’s no Serenity, but it’s still an incredible life-sized build, including a hollow tummy for his beer. Sadly, his arm came off on the first public day and he spent the rest of the weekend crying (and drowning his sorrows, I expect).

  11. Doctor Who MOCs
I love the interior of the TARDIS here, but I especially love the little LEGO Face of Boe!!!
    Brickfair05

  12. Wizard of Oz
I’ve been wanting to make a Wizard of Oz MOC for a few years. When I heard about this year’s wind/air theme, I immediately thought “this is my year!” but then I heard someone else mention someone had already built an Oz MOC and so I didn’t build anything. I’m glad, because this was incredible! Plus there was movement! It really has the bright colors and whimsical feel of the land of Oz.

  13. Ring of the Gods
In the middle of the Pharaoh’s Labyrinth collaboration stands the most clever addition: a Stargate. Plus, there’s my favorite team–Teal’c kicking butt, Jack with his gun on a guard, Sam protecting Daniel, and my favorite geeky boy with his face in a book, possibly trying to figure out the DHD. Brilliant!

  14. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
I remember this MOC from last year… when it was only a fourth of this size. I can’t wait to see all the scenes it expands to cover next year! It’s got everything from the rabbit to the shrubbery to the escape out the tower into the swamp to the grail-shaped beacon. Oh, and did I mention the beacon lights up?! This was fantastic.

  15. Farty Owls
I shrieked when I saw this. Luckily, it was 11pm and no one was around to hear me. But I still shrieked. Fawlty Towers was such a formative part of my childhood and this SNOT version of the reception area is so beautiful. So many great details… including the moose head!
