Fandom Spotlight Day 23: Pirates of Dark Water

For the month of April, I’m breaking out of my usual “format” and showcasing one of my favorite fandoms a day, so I will have shiny things to make me smile every day of my birthday month. When I sat down to write the list of my top 30 fandoms, I found the task terribly hard. How do I choose just 30? My apologies to all my beloved fandoms left off the list. I’m using random.org to determine what fandom gets what day.

Favorite Quote: Ren: I can’t ask you to continue with me on this dangerous quest. Name the port of your choice and I’ll take you there.
Ioz: Which way does the compass point?
Ren: [Ren picks up the compass and spins it around] The second treasure of Rule… East!
Tula: The east it is! For adventure!
Ioz: For treasure!
Ren: For Octopon!
Niddler: For crying out loud! When are we gonna eat?

Favorite Moment: Tula discovering her gift/power

How I Got Into It: One of those Saturday morning cartoons that stood out among the rest. There weren’t that many episodes, but I even watched the repeats.

Fangirl Intensity (scale of 1 to 10 with 10=full-out obsessed): 5

How I Fangirl: I’ve written some unfinished fanfic and I’ve watched the series a number of times through.

Weirdest Merch I Own: plastic cup from Pizza Hut; the top of the cup looks like the compass! I’ve held onto the cup for all these years.

Favorite Fandom Creation: the DVD set wasn’t available, so a great online friend picked me up the taped-from-tv version when she was at a con; it was great rewatching the series finally!

Why I’m Glad I Fangirl It: Ah, a noble quest. Quests are my favorite. Quest + misfit crew of interesting characters + handsome main character = you had me at hello. It was great as a kid to watch a cartoon that was more grown-up in nature and didn’t talk down to us. Plus, I had a total crush on Ren. And Tula was my hero!
