Top Ten: Fandoms I Don’t Fangirl

At a recent con, someone saw my multi-fandom fangirl badge label and asked me what I fangirl. I find it impossible to answer that question; there are just too many fandoms! Instead, I find it easier to answer the question a friend asked me after a Harry Potter meetup a few months ago: what aren’t you into? Sorry if some (or all) of these are your favorite.

Top Ten Fandoms I Don’t Fangirl

  1. Game of Thrones- I made it through season 1, but it just didn’t grab me
  2. The Walking Dead- I’m not into zombies. Or walkers. Or whatever they’re called. Just not my thing.
  3. Professional sports other than hockey- nothing’s as good as hockey
  4. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic- They’re not the MLP from my childhood; just haven’t seen this yet
  5. Horror movies- I’m just not into them
  6. Bevis & Butt-head- I just don’t understand the appeal. The art and the humor are too rough for me
  7. Ren & Stimpy- Same thing. Just never liked ’em. The fact that I didn’t have cable TV/the channel they were on didn’t help
  8. Spongebob Squarepants- I just don’t get the appeal.
  9. Pokemon- I know, I know, but I was just too old when it became a thing
  10. Breaking Bad- the show is just too dirty for me; I kept itching to jump in with some Lysol. And then the bathtub scene happened…

Lol! I agree with many. And the ones I still love I can understand like Horror Movies, Pokemon, and Spongebob. They are definitely love them or hate them kind of things. But as a person who once used to REFUSE to watch MLP I am now a total bronie. The stories are awesome and the characters are fun. The big turning point for me was when I learned they were created by Lauren Faust who also did Foster’s Home of Imaginary Friends. That sealed the deal and I had to sit down and watch. And boom, I was overtaken by yet another fandom.

Good to know! I admit I’m intrigued by Dr. Hooves/Dr. Whooves/Time-Turner. And I’m definitely not against the new MLP… I’ve never given it a chance. This definitely makes me feel like maybe I should 🙂 There was a Bronie con last weekend in Baltimore, also. They advertised on the back of the Shore Leave convention program.
