Fandom Spotlight Day 19: Pound Puppies

For the month of April, I’m breaking out of my usual “format” and showcasing one of my favorite fandoms a day, so I will have shiny things to make me smile every day of my birthday month. When I sat down to write the list of my top 30 fandoms, I found the task terribly hard. How do I choose just 30? My apologies to all my beloved fandoms left off the list. This was my first ever real fandom (minus Sesame Street) so I’m selecting it for my birthday.

Favorite Quote: The whole theme song

Favorite Moment: Cooler’s backstory & birthmark

How I Got Into It: I got a pound puppy as a present, because I wanted one very badly and my parents were wonderful parents. One became two. Then expanded into pound purries as well. And then the television show began and how could I not watch that?

Fangirl Intensity (scale of 1 to 10 with 10=full-out obsessed): 20

How I Fangirl: My very first fanfiction was a Pound Puppies story! As was my second and third. I used to take all my pound puppies and purries downstairs and lined them up to watch the show with me on Saturday mornings. I had have all the merch (blankets, pjs, sleeping bag, bowls & bones, doghouse; I even sent away for personalized tags for many of them).

From left to right: Benji, Sasha, Marmalade, Red Hot, Lucy (on doghouse), Muffin, Fifi (on doghouse), Rolf Rolf (in doghouse), Cocoa (on doghouse), Misty Rose Brownie Spot, Whiskers, Butterscotch

Weirdest Merch I Own: birthday candles that look like a few of the characters, only somewhat melted because they were my actual birthday candles one year.

Favorite Fandom Creation: I don’t have one, but if I did, it would NOT be the new Pound Puppy series. Because they’re just wrong

Why I’m Glad I Fangirl It: It was so much fun to play when I was a kid. Several of my friends also had pound puppies. My best friend and I would invent elaborate storylines and complex relationships among them all. To this day, I can still remember the names of all my Pound Puppies and many of hers. Yes, my two adult dogs were married to my two adult cats and both had litters of dogs and cat babies… so I can’t claim that they taught me much about biology. But it teach me about being kind to animals and giving them loving homes.
