Fandom Spotlight Day 12: Queer as Folk

For the month of April, I’m breaking out of my usual “format” and showcasing one of my favorite fandoms a day, so I will have shiny things to make me smile every day of my birthday month. When I sat down to write the list of my top 30 fandoms, I found the task terribly hard. How do I choose just 30? My apologies to all my beloved fandoms left off the list. I’m using random.org to determine what fandom gets what day.

Favorite Quote: “My dream is to one day know what my dream is.” ~Michael

Favorite Moment: Save the Last Dance for Me

How I Got Into It: I’m pretty sure I watched QAF UK first? Now I can’t even remember! I know I had heard things about the show online and then I downloaded a season illegally. I fell in love so quickly that I went out and bought the first two DVD sets and a soundtrack. Thank you, illegal downloads, for without you I might never have fallen in love with this show and bought all seasons.

Fangirl Intensity (scale of 1 to 10 with 10=full-out obsessed): 8

How I Fangirl: I’ve definitely written some fics, though nothing big or too special. I’ve made a few fanvids. I’ve watched certain seasons and episodes multiple times over (mostly thanks to repeats on LOGO that I couldn’t look away from). I recently completed a full rewatch of each episode while taking notes on all of my favorite moments (MAJOR SPOILERS!)

Favorite Fandom Creation: Affirmation fanvideo by Flrenze that is my heart, mind, and soul all in one beautiful thing

Why I’m Glad I Fangirl It: You’ll probably grow tired of hearing this over and over this month, but I love the characters. Each one is unique, complex, flawed, and beautiful in his or her own way. I fall in love with each one of them every time I watch the show, one at a time. They charm me or pull at my heart. Their struggles and victories are emotional and relatable and so wonderful to watch. There are a few moments that verbalize my feelings better than anything ever has before: Ted’s thoughts to Em about God, Michael telling Dr. David about the items he loves, and Michael not knowing his dream.
