For the month of April, I’m breaking out of my usual “format” and showcasing one of my favorite fandoms a day, so I will have shiny things to make me smile every day of my birthday month. When I sat down to write the list of my top 30 fandoms, I found the task terribly hard. How do I choose just 30? My apologies to all my beloved fandoms left off the list. I’m using random.org to determine what fandom gets what day.

Favorite Movie: you’re going to hate me, but Episode I. Followed by Episode VI
How I Got Into It: It was the Ewoks. Seriously. They got me. I was just the right age to love those furballs when they hit theaters with Return of the Jedi. I remember seeing the first trilogy too many times to remember where I first saw it. Was it a drive-in theater? Was it on TV while sitting with my parents one weekend? Was it on VHS? I can’t remember. I just know I saw it dozens of times growing up and knew it was one of those special things. When Episode I came out, my two best friends took me to see it for my birthday and I at once fell in love with Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan. I adored learning more about the Jedi and watching Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, which lead to my first introduction to slash. The rest is history.
Fangirl Intensity (scale of 1 to 10 with 10=full-out obsessed): 7
How I Fangirl: I write a lot of fanfic and I’m on a mailing list just for it, which is still going strong. I’m slowly making my way through the Jedi Apprentice series (finally; having bought the books years ago on ebay). I saw the re-releases of the original trilogy in theaters back in the ’90s. I saw Episode II at a midnight premiere and Episode III on opening day. I even saw Episode I in 3-D. I have merch, including quite a few sets of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon action figures (read: I just bought another set a few weeks ago at Five Below. C’mon, their lightsabers light up when you press their belts!). I have an episode I blanket I lay on while listening to the music of John Williams at Wolf Trap a summer or two ago.

Why I’m Glad I Fangirl It: Yes, I love the hero’s quest. I love the characters. I love the universe that was created. But, mostly, I love the Jedi. They’re fascinating. I love that the fandom is so large that there are many little pockets and populations, and I’m glad that I’ve found one that I especially enjoy.
